GRANITE CITY - A woman is suing the owner of a Granite City residence after she allegedly fell on steps that were in disrepair.
Marquita Lewis filed a lawsuit on Jan. 5 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Stephen Knogl, alleging negligence and premises liability.
According to the lawsuit, Lewis was on the premises of a Granite City residential property in owned and operated by Knogl on Jan. 17, 2020. As Lewis was exiting the residence, she slipped and fell from steps that were in disrepair. The claims the steps crumbled when she stepped on them.
Lewis alleges Knogl failed to repair the entryway steps, failed to inspect the steps, failed to provide alternative means of entrance and exit from the residence and failed to take action to repair the steps.
Lewis claims she was caused to suffer injury to her right ankle and leg. She also claims she endured past and future pain, mental anguish, disability, will incur future medical bills, lost wages, and will be unable to attend to the ordinary affairs of life.
Lewis seeks an amount in excess of $50,000, plus costs. Lewis is represented by Christopher M. Donohoo of The Donohoo Law Firm PC in East Alton.
