EDWARDSVILLE - A woman is suing the owner of a vehicle who allegedly helped an intoxicated man into her car and then allowed him to drive home, resulting in a fatal Highland crash.
Sandra Anderson, as special administrator of the estate of Edward Anderson, deceased, filed a lawsuit on Jan. 5 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Stacy Knox.
According to the lawsuit, on Jan. 10, 2020, Sandra Anderson was operating a vehicle with her husband, Edward Anderson, riding in the backseat on Jan. 10, 2020, on Hill Road in Highland. At the same time, Jon Knox was driving a vehicle owned by Stacy Knox when he allegedly crossed the center line and collided with Anderson's vehicle. The crash allegedly caused Anderson's vehicle to leave the roadway. Edward Anderson was taken to St. Louis University Hospital via ambulance and was admitted for his injuries. He ultimately died on Jan. 31, 2020.
Anderson claims Jon Knox was intoxicated at the time of the crash. The suit states that Stacy Knox had been with Jon Knox prior to the crash. She allegedly drove him from their home in Highland to a location in Edwardsville to take pick up the vehicle in question. Stacy Knox allegedly assisted Jon Knox to and inside the motor vehicle he operated at the time of the occurrence and should have known he would be operating the vehicle on public roadways while intoxicated.
Sandra Anderson claims she was caused to suffer severe and permanent injuries internally and externally, past and future pain, mental anguish, large sums of money expended for hospital and medical treatment, lost future wages damages to earning capacity, loss of enjoyment of life, and loss of consortium.
Anderson seeks an amount in excess of $50,000, plus costs. Anderson is represented by Micah S. Summers of Walton Telken LLC in Edwardsville.
