EDWARDSVILLE -- A pedestrian claims a Granite City sidewalk wasn't maintained after a tree was planted, causing him to trip and fall.

Don Gore filed a lawsuit on Nov. 16 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Granite City, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Gore was lawfully on a sidewalk owned and maintained by Granite City and intended for public use on Nov. 26, 2020. He claims the sidewalk was not properly maintained after a tree was planted between the sidewalk and the road, causing the sidewalk to deteriorate and shift. As a result, Gore alleges he tripped and fell to the ground.

Gore claims he was caused to suffer injuries to his head, chest, left side, left hand and body, as well as a concussion and traumatic brain injury. Gore claims his injuries also resulted in headaches, loss of vision, difficulty walking, cognitive disabilities, loss of memory, confusion and inability to drive, the suit states.

Gore seeks damages in excess of $50,000, cost of suit and attorney fees. He is represented by Brendon T. Sanders of Brown & James P.C. in St. Louis.
