EAST ST. LOUIS — A patient alleges his spinal fractures went undiagnosed and untreated for months, which has caused him to suffer partial paralysis.

Danny Grove and Marilyn Grove filed a complaint against Southern Illinois Health Care Foundation Inc., doing business as SIHF Healthcare, Luis C. DeVenecia, M.D., Jamie Bump, N.P. and United States of America, alleging medical negligence.

According to his complaint, Grove was a patient at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney on April 9, 2019. He claims he fell and suffered persistent back pain, which he sought treatment for from DeVencia and Bump. Grove claims he was prescribed hydrocodone and physical therapy. He alleges that throughout the next month, he suffered continued severe pain with pain radiating down his legs. On May 28, 2019, a radiologist reviewed a prior film of his testing, which showed "acute thoracic spine fractures."

Grove claims the defendants failed to perform a through physical exam or order additional imaging of his spine, which caused his spinal fracture to go undetected, undiagnosed and untreated and led to partial paralysis.

Grove seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Brian Hetzer of The Duncan Law Group LLC in Chicago.
