EDWARDSVILLE — A sub contractor working on a renovation project for several schools in the Edwardsville Community Unit School District alleges the completed work has not been paid for.

George Weis Company filed a complaint Nov. 15 in the Madison County Circuit Court against R&W Builder's Inc., Old Republic Surety Company and Edwardsville Community Unit School District #7, alleging breach of contract and other claims.

According to the complaint, the Edwardsville Community Unit School District entered into a contract with R&W on July 28 for renovation work at Edwardsville High School, Liberty Middle School and Goshen Elementary School. George Weis Company claims they entered into a "subcontract agreement" for the school district work with R&W for $56,009. The plaintiff alleges Old Republic issued payment and performance bonds on the contract and the work was completed in August.

However, George Weis Company alleges it has not received payment for its work despite sending notices of its claim to the project architect, the Edwardsville Community Unit School District and Old Republic on Oct. 27. The plaintiff claims the defendants are in breach of contract and breach of payment bond.

Weis seeks compensation of more than $56,009, interest and all other just relief. It is represented by David Duree of David M. Duree & Associates PC in O'Fallon.
