EDWARDSVILLE — A patient is suing Granite City Illinois Hospital, alleging she suffered damages to her gastrointestinal track, muscles and tendons during back surgery.

Sandra Harmon filed a complaint Oct. 18 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Granite City Illinois Hospital Company LLC, Jonathan Workman, M.D., and Alton Memorial Hospital, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Harmon underwent a lumbar decompressive laminectomy performed by Workman at Granite City Illinois Hospital on Nov. 21, 2019. She alleges that on Nov. 26, 2019, she presented to Gateway Regional Medical Center due to abdominal pain, which was caused by injuries to her muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, organs, soft tissues and gastrointestinal tract.

Harmon alleges the defendants failed to provide proper care for her post-operative medical complications and failed to properly evaluate her injuries. She also alleges the defendants failed to perform proper diagnostic testing and imaging to determine her post-operative injuries.

Harmon claims that as a result of the defendants' negligence, she suffered loss of a normal life, disability and incurred medical expenses.

Harmon seeks compensation of more than $50,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Tonya Genovese, Robert Marcus and Sara Salger of The Gori Law Firm PC in Edwardsville.
