BELLEVILLE — A woman alleges she slipped and fell on a liquid accumulation on the floor of a grocery store in Cahokia.

Aretha Buckley filed a complaint July 29 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Schnuck Markets Inc., alleging negligence.

Buckley alleges in her complaint that she was at the defendant's grocery store on Camp Jackson Road in Cahokia on Sept. 13, 2019. She claims that as she was walking in the meat department, she slipped and fell on an accumulation of clear liquid that was on the floor. Buckley alleges that as a result of her fall, she suffered injuries to her foot, knee and other parts of her body, which required physical therapy and other medical care.

She alleges the defendant's employees knew or should have known about the accumulation of liquid on the floor, which posed a danger. She also claims they were negligent for failing to inspect their premises, failing to barricade the area or warn of the hazard and failing to use ordinary care to make their premises safe.

Buckley seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. She is represented by Lanny Darr of The Darr Law Offices in Alton and Michael Sudekum of Mandel & Mandel in St. Louis.
