EAST ST. LOUIS — A co-signer on a car loan claims she receives harassing and illegal collection calls from Scott Credit Union.

Paula Reynolds filed a complaint Aug. 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois East St. Louis Division against Scott Credit Union, alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Practices Act.

According to the complaint, Reynolds co-signed on a car loan from Scott Credit Union for her niece. She alleges that she has not spoken to her niece since she began falling behind in payments in early 2020. Reynolds claims that in April 2020, she started to receive collection calls on her cell phone from the defendant.

Reynolds claims that despite her request for the "harassing" collection calls to stop, the defendant continued to call her using an automated telephone dialing system. She further claims the calls caused severe disruption to her everyday life and overall well-being, including anxiety, aggravation, distraction and the wear and tear of her cell phone. Reynolds claims the defendant's calls were made without her consent and in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act as well as Illinois law.

Reynolds seeks monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Marwan Daher of The Sulaiman Law Group LTD in Lombard.
