EDWARDSVILLE — A motorist claims she was injured in a three-car collision caused by a speeding driver who ran a red light at the intersection of IL 140 and IL 159.

Kathleen Diestelhorst filed a complaint July 9 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Kevin Kessinger and Larry Schmitt Trucking Inc., alleging negligence.

According to her complaint, Diestelhorst was driving her 2017 Jeep Patriot eastbound on IL 140 in Fort Russell Township on Feb. 25. She alleges Kessinger was driving a truck with a trailer and traveling northbound on IL 159 at the intersection with IL 140. The defendant allegedly had "a red light facing him at the intersection." Diestelhorst claims Kessinger ran the red light and entered the intersection, causing him to collide with a vehicle which then hit the plaintiff's car.

As a result of the collision, Diestelhorst claims she suffered injuries to her neck and has suffered headaches, incurred medical expenses and suffered mental anguish as well as lost wages.

Diestelhorst alleges Kessinger was driving while distracted, was speeding and failed to obey the traffic signal or yield the right of way. She also alleges Kessinger failed to "make a proper maneuver" to avoid the crash, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to stop to avoid the collision.

Diestelhorst seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Michael Glisson and Timothy Chartrand of Williamson, Webster, Falb & Glisson in Alton.
