EDWARDSVILLE — A motorist claims he was injured in a crash at an Alton intersection as he was attempting to make a turn.

John D. Caldwell filed a complaint June 29 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Rita Velloff, alleging negligence.

According to his complaint, Caldwell was driving his Chevrolet truck on Western Avenue in Alton at the intersection with Milton Road on Nov. 29, 2019. He alleges that as he was stopped to make a right turn, Velloff, who was driving her GMC Terrain on Milton Road at the same intersection, collided with his vehicle.

Caldwell claims he suffered "extensive" injuries to his neck, back, elbow, shoulder and hand. He also claims he has become obligated for medical treatment costs and suffered lost wages, disability and disfigurement, as a result of the collision.

Caldwell alleges Velloff was negligent for failing to keep a proper lookout, driving at an excessive speed and failing to brake or maneuver to avoid the collision.

Caldwell seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. He is represented by Rodney Caffey of The Caffey Law Firm LLC in Godfrey.
