EDWARDSVILLE — A motorist claims she suffered injuries in an Alton crash allegedly caused by another driver who failed to yield the right of way.

Ashley Burgoon filed a complaint June 7 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Mary Gilbreth, alleging negligence.

According to her complaint, Burgoon was driving her vehicle on Washington Avenue near the intersection of College Avenue in Alton on July 8, 2019. Burgoon alleges that Gilbreth, who was driving her vehicle in the Southbound direction on Washington Avenue, failed to yield the right of way at the intersection and collided with her vehicle.

Burgoon claims she suffered external and internal injuries, which caused her "loss of a normal life." She alleges Gilbreth was negligent for driving at an unreasonable speed, failing to swerve or keep sufficient control of her vehicle and failing to stop and yield the right of way in compliance with the traffic signal at the intersection.

Burgoon seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Daniel Finney of Brown & Brown LLP in St. Louis.
