BENTON — A Williamson County man is suing Experian, TransUnion and others for failing to investigate and update an incorrect debt in his credit report.
Brandon Stout filed a complaint May 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois Benton Division against Mountain Run Solutions, doing business as Perfection Collection LLC, Experian Information Solutions Inc., and TransUnion LLC, alleging violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Stout alleges in his complaint that in early 2021, he noticed a "Mountain Run trade line" on his credit report and showed a $2,063 past due balance. He claims the debt originated from an obligation to Vivint, which is "owned by an entity that is not Mountain Run." Stout claims he sent written disputes to TransUnion and Experian in February 2021 and asked them to update their reporting to correctly show on his account.
Stout further claims that Mountain Run was also notified of the mistake and that Experian and TransUnion failed to respond or investigate his credit dispute. He alleges their actions have had an impact on his "creditworthiness" and credit rating and has misled creditors to believe he is a "high-risk consumer."
Stout seeks monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Nathan Volheim of The Sulaiman Law Group LTD in Lombard.
