Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A Madison County nursing facility is facing a suit from the estate of a former resident claiming she developed numerous pressure wounds while under their care, including one that required a leg amputation.

Amy Whitener, independent executor of the Estate of Janet King, deceased, filed a complaint May 21 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Bravo Care of Alton, doing business as Rosewood Care Center of Alton, Bravo Holding Company Inc., and Peterson Health Network LLC, doing business as Willow Rose Rehab and Health Care Center, alleging violation of the Nursing Home Act.

Janet King was admitted to Rosewood on May 15, 2019, according to the plaintiff's complaint. The plaintiff alleges that King was incorrectly assessed upon admission to Rosewood as being "low risk for pressure ulcers." King was later transferred to Alton Memorial Hospital on May 23, 2019, where she was diagnosed with "skin breakdown. King did not have any skin breakdowns prior to her admission to Rosewood.

According to the plaintiff's complaint, while a resident at Rosewood from May 28, 2019, through June 28, 2019, she suffered from various pressure wounds. She eventually required a below the knee amputation and died in October 2019.

The plaintiff seeks monetary and all other just relief.  She is represented by Jonathan Young of The Law Office of Jonathan W. Young in Chicago.
