Waste Management driver alleges wrongful termination

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A former Waste Management employee claims he was wrongfully fired after a trash truck overturned due to a broken driveshaft.

Ira Campbell filed a complaint April 12 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Waste Management of Illinois Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Campbell was employed by Waste Management of Illinois when he was involved in a "single vehicle trash truck accident" that took place on County Highway 12 in Venedy Township near Illinois Route 177. He claims he lost control of the Mack LE Series 2003 trash truck, which overturned due to a broken driveshaft.

Campbell alleges Waste Management failed to properly inspect and maintain the 17-year-old truck and wrongfully fired him "on the basis that he negligently operated the trash truck" and caused the accident. He further claims he was fired without just cause and in retaliation for filing an accidental work injury through Workers' Compensation.

Campbell seeks compensation of more than $50,000, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by attorney Bradly Badgley in Belleville.
