Physician accused of failing to treat, diagnose bone fracture

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A woman claims a physician failed to diagnose and treat her bone fracture, allegedly causing her to suffer extensive injuries.

Jerilee Morris-Garrison filed a complaint Feb. 23 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Nidal Shawahin, M.D., Fariview Heights Medical Group SC, BJC Medical Group Internal Medicine at Belleville and BJC Medical Group of Illinois, alleging negligence.

Morris-Garrison alleges in her complaint that while under the medical care of the defendants on Feb. 28, 2019, they failed to properly diagnose and treat her fractured right fibula and tibia. She also alleges they failed to advise her to "be non-weight bearing" and failed to send her to an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation and treatment.

As a result of the defendants' alleged negligence, Morris-Garrison claims she has suffered "extensive" injuries, is in "constant pain" and has suffered disability, disfigurement and "loss of a normal life."

The plaintiff seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Colleen Jones of Cook, Bartholomew, Shelvin, Cook & Jones LLP in Belleville.
