Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A woman claims she suffered injuries when loose shelving fell on her at a Target store in Belleville.

Roxanne Royce filed a complaint Feb. 17 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Target Corporation, alleging negligence.

Royce was shopping at a Target on Belleville Crossing Street in Belleville on Nov. 23, 2019, according to her complaint. She alleges that as she reached for at toy on one of the shelves, the shelf and its contents fell and struck her.

Royce claims she suffered injuries to her hand and finger and required medical treatment. She also claims she suffered pain, "anxiety of body and mind," as well as emotional injuries.

She alleges Target is negligent for failing to detect or repair the "loose and dangerous" shelving in its store, and failed to warn of the danger or barricade the loose shelving to protect customers.

Royce seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by John Wilbers of The Wilbers Law Firm LLC in St. Louis.
