Suit alleges moldy apartment caused illness to woman, children

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A woman claims water leakage and mold build up in her rental apartment caused injuries to her and her children.

Ladonna Lawrence, individually and as mother of and next of friend of Darron Hill, Jr., and Micah Douglas, Jr., minors, filed a complaint Feb. 8 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Jenny and Skeet Huskey, Kunkel Wittenauer Group LLC, Weatherwood Condominium Association, McMath Construction Company LLC and Rainbow International, alleging negligence, premises liability and breach of contract.

According to the complaint, Lawrence rented a property on Ponderosa Avenue in O'Fallon from the Huskeys. While she was there, McMath Construction was hired to perform mold remediation work on the apartment complex. Lawrence claims the defendants negligently failed to "rectify the mold issue" in her apartment and exposed her and her children to mold.

Lawrence alleges the mold in her apartment was due to the defendants' negligence in failing to fix water leak issues in her rental unit and failing to provide a "decent, safe and sanitary condition." She also claims the defendants knew or should have known of the "unreasonable risk" the leakage and mold posed to her and her children.

Lawrence seeks monetary and all other just relief. She is represented by Matthew Young of Kuehn, Beasley & Young PC in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 21-L-0128
