EDWARDSVILLE — An Illinois company that required fingerprint scans from its employees is facing a lawsuit alleging violation of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.
Partrick Scott, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, filed a complaint Feb. 11 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Keyser Enterprises Inc., alleging violation of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.
Scott alleges in his complaint that as an employee of Keyser Enterprises, he was required to clock in and out using his fingerprint scan. He claims Keyser never informed him of "the specific purposes or length of time" that his biometric information would be collected and stored. Scott also alleges the defendant failed to inform him about the company's "data retention policy."
Scott claims he never signed a written release giving authorization for his biometric data to be collected or stored. He claims he and other Keyser employees have been exposed to risks due to the company's alleged violation of the Biometric Information Privacy Act.
The plaintiffs seek monetary and all other just relief. They are represented by Brandon Wise and Paul Lesko of Peiffer Wolf Carr Kane & Conway APLC in St. Louis.
