Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A passenger claims he fell on a Metro bus in St. Clair County and suffered injuries when the driver suddenly came to a stop after asking the plaintiff to throw away a piece of trash.

Pierre Crawford filed a complaint Feb. 5 in the St Clair County Circuit Court against Bi-State Development Agency, doing business as Metro, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Crawford claims he was riding on the Bi-State bus on Feb. 13, 2020. He alleges he was seated when the bus driver asked him "to throw something away in the trash receptacle." Crawford claims that when the driver pulled up to the trash receptacle, he walked towards the driver while the bus was in motion and grabbed the bag of trash. He states in his complaint that as he was attempting to throw the trash in the receptacle, the driver suddenly stopped which caused him to fall.

Crawford alleges he suffered injuries to his knee, lower back, shoulder and other parts of his body.

He claims Bi-State is negligent for failing to properly maintain the floors of the bus. He also alleges the driver failed to warn him of the dangerous condition.

Crawford seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. He is represented by Kirk Caponi of Williams, Caponi & Associates PC in Belleville.
