EDWARDSVILLE — A woman claims she was a guest at a Cottage Hills home on New Year's Eve when she was allegedly thrown to the ground and landed on a hydraulic jack.
Paula Lawver filed a complaint Dec. 29 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Bobby Highsmith and Jack Talley, alleging negligence.
Lawver claims in her suit that on Dec. 31, she was an invited guest at Highsmith's home located on Virginia Avenue in Cottage Hills. It is unclear what year the incident occurred. She alleges that while there, Talley "viciously" attacked her and threw her to the ground, causing her to land on a hydraulic jack. As a result of the alleged attack, Lawver claims she suffered "extensive" injuries to her hip, shoulder and back.
Her injuries allegedly caused her disability and disfigurement. She also claims she has suffered a loss of earning capacity and has incurred "large sums" of medical expenses due to her injuries.
Lawver alleges Highsmith negligently maintained his premises and failed to warn of the "existence of danger." She alleges Talley was negligent by assaulting, beating and battering her and causing her physical harm.
Lawver seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. She is represented by Rodney Caffey of The Caffey Law Firm in Godfrey.
