Suit claims Anderson Hospital physician, nurses failed to administer medication properly

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A physician and two nurses at Anderson Hospital in Maryville are facing a wrongful death suit alleging they failed to administer a patient's medication correctly and in a timely manner.

David Wilkinson, as independent administrator of the Estate of Sharon Lancenese, filed a complaint Dec. 30 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Anderson Hospital, Robert Vergara, M.D., Jennifer Rines, R.N., and Lori Bertagnolli, R.N., alleging wrongful death.

According to Wilkinson's complaint, his mother, Sharon Lancenese, received treatment from the defendants at Anderson Hospital in Maryville from April 23-29, 2019. He specifically alleges that Vergara failed to administer Lancenese's prescribed medication, Lasix, "in a timely manner," and failed to give Lancenese potassium and magnesium after the administration of the Lasix "until the damage from not doing so was irreversible."

Wilkinson claims the treatment provided by the defendants "did not assist or may have worsened" his mother's illness. Lancenese died on April 29, 2019. Wilkinson also claims that the defendants did not "exercise that degree of care, skill, knowledge and learning" usually practiced in the medical community.

Wilkinson seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Reed Nelson of Nelson & Nelson PC in Belleville.
