Man sues Edison's Entertainment Complex over icy slip, fall

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — The owners of the Edison's Entertainment Complex are being sued by a man who claims he slipped on ice while entering the property.

Ronald Shafer filed a complaint Dec. 10 in the Madison County Circuit COurt against The E-Zone at Sunset Hills LLC, doing business as Edison's Entertainment Complex, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Shafer claims he suffered injuries, including injuries to his right hand, after slipping on ice and liquid that had accumulated at the entrance to the Edison's Entertainment Complex located in Edwardsville on Dec. 14, 2019.

Shafer alleges he suffered pain as well as the accumulation of medical bills due to the alleged fall.

He alleges the defendants are negligent for failing to "properly" maintain and inspect their property, allowing the ice and liquid to accumulate at the entry to the property and failing to warn of the unsafe condition or put out a "slip guard or slip resistant surface" at the entryway.

Shafer also alleges the defendants failed to "exercise the degree of care" required and that he had no other choice but to enter the building through the area where the ice and liquid had allegedly accumulated.

Shafer seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. He is represented by George Albers of Albers Law LLC in Granite City.
