Clinical care worker alleges she was fired due to pregnancy

Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A former clinical care worker claims she was discriminated against and terminated from her employment because of her pregnancy.

Kristin Cleveland filed a complaint Nov. 16 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Hope Clinical Care, alleging violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

According to the complaint, Cleveland worked for Hope Clinical Care at its O'Fallon location in St. Clair County and was pregnant during her employment with the clinic. She alleges that after requesting FMLA benefits, she was discharged from her position at Hope Clinical. She also claims that during her employment, she was "subjected to harassment, discrimination and a hostile work environment."

Cleveland alleges that she "would have been willing, able and capable of returning to work" after the birth of her baby, but she was terminated. She claims her termination is related to her request for FMLA.

Cleveland alleges that she has suffered emotional distress, mental anguish and other losses as a result of the alleged discrimination. She was granted the right to sue from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, according to her complaint.

Cleveland seeks compensation of more than $50,000, interest and all other proper relief. She is represented by Michael Brunton and Mary Stewart of The Brunton Law Offices PC in Collinsville.
