EDWARDSVILLE — Anderson Hospital and one of its physicians is accused of failing to properly diagnose and treat a patient's pulmonary infection prior to his death.

Dominic Jakich, as special administrator of the Estate of Lance Jakich, filed a complaint Nov. 4 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Anderson Hospital and Andrew Russell, M.D., alleging negligence.

The plaintiff alleges in the complaint that Lance Jakich sought treatment at Anderson Hospital on Dec. 25, 2019, and was treated by Russell. He claims Russell failed to order a chest x-ray, failed to diagnose and treat Lance Jakich's pulmonary infection and failed to give Jakich proper instructions on taking Naproxin. Lance Jakich later died on Jan. 2.

The plaintiff claims that Lance Jakich's death was due to the negligence of the defendants. He further alleges that the defendants failed "to apply the knowledge and use the skill and care" that would normally be used by a "reasonably well-qualified health care provider" in their treatment of Jakich.

The plaintiff alleges he has suffered the loss of "services, companionship, comfort, instruction, guidance and counsel, training, love and support" of Lance Jakich.

The plaintiff seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. He is represented by Joseph Bartholomew of Cook, Bartholomew, Shevin, Cook & Jones LLP in Belleville.
