BELLEVILLE — The owner of a Venice auto body shop is accused of wrongful death following an October 2018 shooting that resulted in murder and gun charges.

Vincent Slack and Gala Slack, as special administrators of the Estate of Tyrone Williams, Sr., filed a complaint Oct. 2 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Kevin Campbell, individually and doing business as Williams Auto Body, alleging wrongful death.

According to the complaint, Tyrone Williams and others were at a premises near Williams Auto Body in Venice on Oct. 6, 2018. They allege that Campbell came out the body shop "with a gun in his hand" and fired the gun at Williams, resulting in his death. The Slacks allege Campbell negligently failed to "hold his weapon in a safe manner," pointed the gun in an unsafe manner, and fired the gun "when it was unsafe to do so."

Campbell was later charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of weapons by a felon.

The plaintiffs also allege they have suffered the loss of Williams' "society, love, care and affection" and have been "caused to suffer grief and sorrow" due to his death.

The Slacks seek compensation of more than $50,000 and all other proper relief. They are represented by Gregory Shevlin of Cook, Bartholomew, Shevlin, Cook & Jones LLP in Belleville.
