Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A woman claims she suffered injuries when she slipped and fell at a Jerseyville Taco Bell.

Marci Thomas filed a complaint  Oct. 5 in the Madison County Circuit Court against YUM! Brands Inc., Taco Bell Corporation, W&M Restaurants Inc., Shadow Ridge Properties LP and Jacqueline Cope, individually and as general manager of W&M Restaurants Inc., alleging negligence.

Thomas alleges in her complaint that while entering the Taco Bell on South State Street in Jerseyville on Oct. 6, 2018, she slipped and fell "on a wet floor." She claims she suffered "extensive injuries" to her right leg, knee and hip as well as injuries to her back and tail bone. Thomas also claims she has become obligated to pay "large sums of money" for medical care and treatment and has also suffered lost wages as a result of her alleged incident.

Thomas claims the defendants negligently failed to use "ordinary care" and failed to maintain the entrance and premises. She also claims the defendants failed to "properly inspect" the floors on the premises for any hazards. She further claims the defendants "carelessly and negligently failed to warn" about the water on the floor.

Thomas seeks monetary compensation  of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Rodney Caffey of The Caffey Law Firm LLC in Godfrey.
