Man sues over slip, fall at Hamel gas station

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE - A man is suing a Hamel truck stop after he allegedly slipped and fell while pumping gas.

Thomas Perko filed suit June 23 in Madison County Circuit Court following the alleged incident at Love's Travel Stops and Country Stores in Hamel.

According to the complaint, Perko claims that when he was pumping gas at the station he slipped on a large puddle of an "oily and greasy substance." Perko alleges the puddle was adjacent to the pump.

The defendant had a duty of care to make sure its premises was kept in a reasonably safe condition, the suit states.

Perko alleges the defendant negligently failed to warn of the substance on the lot, allowed the puddle to exist, failed to barricade around it and failed to clean the area.

Perko claims he suffered injuries to his torso, head, left hand and wrist. He also claims he incurred medical bills and suffered lost earnings.

The plaintiff is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. He represented by Samuel A. Mormino of Mormino, Velloff & Snider in Alton.
