BELLEVILLE —A woman is suing the Knights of Cahokia after she allegedly tripped and fell while volunteering at the food pantry.

Karen Diers filed a complaint on May 20 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Knights of Cahokia Inc., an Illinois not-for-profit corporation doing business as Knights of Columbus- Cahokia Council, alleging negligence.

The suit states that the plaintiff was a resident in St. Clair County when she was volunteering at the Cahokia Food Pantry on Dec. 19, 2018. Diers alleges that while she was volunteering, she tripped on a shopping cart and fell, as a result of a poorly lit space.

The plaintiff is seeking more than $50,000 and costs of the suit. The plaintiff is represented by Richard G. Reed and Earl W. Hubbs of Reed and Bruhn PC in Belleville.
