EDWARDSVILLE — A guest is suing a Wood River homeowner, alleging she fell down the stairs while trying to help the defendant move a flower pot.

Alice Verdun filed a complaint March 7 in Madison County Circuit Court against Joan Schuette, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on March 24, 2017, Verdun was a guest at Schuette's Wood River residence when she attempted to help the defendant move potted flowers down some stairs. Verdun claims she was injured when the defendant dropped the pot, striking Verdun and causing her to fall down the stairs.

The plaintiff claims she suffered injuries to her left wrist and shoulder, requiring expenses for medical care and treatment.

Verdun seeks damages in excess of $50,000, costs of suit and other just relief. She is represented by attorney Rodney D. Caffrey of The Caffrey Law Firm LLC in Godfrey.
