BELLEVILLE — A St. Clair County man is suing an East St. Louis bar owner and patron, alleging another patron hit him in the head with a beer bottle.

Abdul Hakim Muhammad filed a complaint Feb. 8 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Red Apple Lounge, Inc. and Terrell M. Culpepper, alleging Red Apple violated the Dram Shop Act.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 31, 2018, Muhammad was injured at the Red Apple Lounge in East St. Louis when Culpepper hit him on the left side of the head with a beer bottle. Muhammad claims he sustained significant and serious injuries to his head, face and other organs.

The plaintiff alleges Red Apple's agents and employees negligently gave or served alcoholic beverages to Culpepper, thereby causing him to be intoxicated.

Muhammad seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $50,000, plus costs of court. He is represented by attorney Steven E. Katzman of Katzman & Sugden LLC in Belleville.
