BELLEVILLE — A bus driver is suing insurers for allegedly denying her claim for underinsured motorist coverage.

Laura Schukar filed a complaint Feb. 6 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Catlin Indemnity Company, Caitlin Inc., and Wright Specialty Insurance Agency LLC, alleging failure to make a reasonable investigation.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 7, 2017, Schukar was in the course and scope of her employment with the Vandalia CUSD No. 203 board when the bus she was driving was struck by an underinsured motorist.

Schukar claims she sustained bodily injuries and made a claim for underinsured motorist coverage under the policy issued by Caitlin.

However, the plaintiff alleges the defendants failed and refused to pay Schukar's damages for her bodily injuries.

Schukar seeks trial by jury, damages of not less than $50,000, plus interest, court costs and all other just relief. She is represented by attorney Samantha S. Unsell of Keefe, Keefe & Unsell PC in Belleville.
