EDWARDSVILLE — A brakeman is suing Norfolk Southern Railway Company after she allegedly suffered injuries due to an unsafe work environment.

Brenda Whitworth filed a complaint on Feb. 7 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Norfolk Southern Railway Company, alleging it failed to comply with the Federal Employment Liability Act regulations.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges she suffered injuries while working for the defendant due to an unsafe work environment.

As a result, she claims he sustained injuries to her right shoulder, right arm, back and neck which caused her to suffer pain, mental anguish, medical care and treatment expenses, and lost wages.

The plaintiff alleges Norfolk Southern failed to provide a safe condition and safe methods for work, failed to provide reasonably safe appliances and negligently allowed unsafe practices to become the standard of practice.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs of this suit. She is represented by Stephanie A. Black of Groves | Powers LLC in St. Louis.
