Suit alleges pedestrian killed while walking on Route 111

EDWARDSVILLE — A mother filed a wrongful death suit after her son was struck and killed while walking along Route 111 in Madison County. 

Sharren M. Galvan, as special administrator of the estate of Robert A. Galvan. deceased, filed a complaint on Feb. 7 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Travis Sackett and Erion Qirko, alleging they failed to operate their vehicles in a careful and prudent manner.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 25, 2017, Robert Galvan was walking as a pedestrian on Route 111, north of Theikler Road in Madison County, when he was struck and killed by Sackett. 

The plaintiff alleges she suffered grief, sorrow, loss of society and loss of financial support. 

The plaintiff alleges Sackett negligently drove his vehicle at an excessive speed and failed to reduce speed or stop to avoid striking the decedent. She also alleges Qirko negligently distracted Sackett, preventing him from seeing and avoiding the decedent.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in an amount greater than $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by Edward J. Szewczyk of Callis, Papa & Szewczyk PC in Granite City.
