Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE — A St. Clair County woman is suing a motorist for allegedly causing a Fairview Heights crash.

Shawnte Spates filed a complaint Jan. 17 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Roger Baldridge, alleging failure to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 19, 2017, Spates was operating a vehicle traveling north on North Illinois Street near its intersection with Belle Drive in Fairview Heights when Baldridge caused a collision while attempting to pass Spates.

Spates claims she suffered injuries to her head, neck and body as a whole.

The plaintiff alleges Baldridge failed to keep proper lookout, negligently moved from the center turn lane to the roadway lane for traffic without ascertaining if it could be done safely and failed to reduce his speed or stop to avoid a collision.

Spates seeks trial by jury, judgment greater than $50,000, plus court costs and all other just relief. She is represented by attorney Derek J. Siegel of Kuehn, Beasley & Young PC in Belleville.
