EDWARDSVILLE — Edwardsville Care Center is accused of putting ill-fitting shoes on a patient, causing her to suffer injuries and an amputated toe.

Kimberly Berry filed a complaint on Jan. 24 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Edwardsville Care Center LLC, alleging the health care provider violated the Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 9, 2018, Sara Blair was accepted by Edwardsville Care Center for medical treatment. The plaintiff alleges the defendant's employee placed ill-fitting tennis shoes on Blair's feet and failed to provide necessary care and services.

As a result, Blair allegedly suffered injuries to her foot and her fourth left toe had to be amputated due to gangrene and cellulitis.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of not less than $50,000, plus costs of this action. She is represented by Matthew R. Chapman of Becker, Shroader & Chapman PC in Granite City.
