EDWARDSVILLE — A motorist claims she was trapped inside her car when a tractor trailer rear-ended her vehicle on Interstate 70.

Tonya Taylor filed a complaint on Jan. 17 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Bancroft & Sons Transportation and Robert Lee Johnson, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 6, 2017, she was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 in Marine when a tractor trailer driven by Johnson struck the rear of her vehicle, causing her to lose control of her vehicle, overturn and exit the roadway, trapping her inside.

Taylor claims she sustained injuries to her head, neck, left side, left shoulder, left elbow, hip and back.

The plaintiff alleges Johnson failed to maintain careful lookout, failed to yield, failed to signal his intention to turn and improperly entered the plaintiff's lane of travel. Taylor also alleges Bancroft & Sons negligently hired and retained an unfit, incompetent and unqualified truck driver.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus all further relief that the court may deem just and proper. She is represented by Gary K. Burger and Genavieve M. Fikes of Burger Law in St. Louis.
