BELLEVILLE — A motorist is suing another driver for allegedly causing a collision in Belleville.

Lauren N. Brewer filed a complaint on Jan. 4 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Shelby A. Reed, alleging the driver failed to obey traffic signal device.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 14, she was operating a vehicle at the intersection of Route 161 and Frank Scott Parkway in Belleville when the defendant allegedly caused a collision.

Brewer claims she sustained severe and permanent injuries to her head and neck, suffered pain and mental anguish, lost gainful occupation and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff holds Reed responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to keep proper lookout, failed to give right of way and failed to timely and properly apply brakes to avoid a collision.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by Bruce R. Cook of Cook, Bartholomew, Shevlin & Cook LLP in Belleville.
