EDWARDSVILLE — Granite City property owners claim their house was damaged by their neighbor's tree during a summer storm.

Paul Wood and Jamie Wood filed a complaint Jan. 8 in Madison County Circuit Court against Jason Schueren, alleging failure to protect the plaintiffs' property from unreasonable risk of harm.

According to the complaint, a tree on Schueren's property on Delmar Ave. in Granite City fell against the Wood's property during a storm on June 28, 2018. The plaintiffs allege the tree caused structural damage to their property. The Woodses say they suffered loss of income from their rental property and have been damaged in excess of $50,000.

The plaintiffs allege Schueren failed to exercise reasonable care to prevent dead or dying trees from falling on the Wood's property.

The plaintiffs seek trial by jury, damages of more than $50,000, plus court costs. They are represented by attorney Mark M. Silvermintz of Law Offices of Mark M. Silvermintz in Collinsville.
