Pedestrian sues Granite City over crosswalk trip, fall

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A pedestrian is suing Granite City after she allegedly tripped while using a cross walk.

Tina Turner filed a complaint Jan. 4 in Madison County Circuit Court against Granite City, alleging failure to maintain the streets and sidewalks within the city limits in a reasonably safe condition.

According to the complaint, Turner alleges that on Dec. 1, 2018, she was attempting to use the crosswalk area at the intersection of 22nd Street and Iowa Street in Granite City when she tripped on a large hole and fell.

Turner claims she sustained physical injuries, including a broken ankle.

The plaintiff alleges Granite City failed to inspect the crosswalk area, failed to maintain the area and failed to provide adequate warning of the existing danger.

Turner seeks trial by jury, judgment greater then $50,000, plus court costs. She is represented by attorney Edward J. Szewczyk of Callis Papa & Szewczyk in Granite City.
