BELLEVILLE — A motorist is suing another driver for allegedly causing collision while the plaintiff was pregnant.
Zerina Softic filed a complaint Dec. 7 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Matthew Nance, alleging he negligently drove his vehicle while distracted.
According to the complaint, Softic claims she was 25 weeks pregnant and was operating a vehicle on Aug. 20 at the intersection of Old Collinsville Road and Frank Scott Parkway Road in Swansea when Nance allegedly caused a collision.
Softic alleges she sustained injuries to her neck, back, whiplash and a tear in her placenta.
The plaintiff claims Nance drove while distracted, drove his vehicle at an excessive speed for the conditions, followed her vehicle more closely than reasonable and failed to swerve or stop to avoid a collision.
Softic seeks trial by jury, judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs of court. She is represented by attorneys Michael P. Glisson and Timothy J. Chartrand of Williamson, Webster, Falb and Glisson in Alton.
