BELLEVILLE — St. Elizabeth's Hospital is suing healthcare plan administrators for more than $5.1 million after the defendants allegedly refused to pay for services.
St. Elizabeth's Hospital of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis filed a complaint on Nov. 27 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Harmony Health Plan Inc. and Wellcare Health Plan Inc., alleging they violated the fundamental principles of justice, equity and good governance.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 1, 2002, the plaintiff entered into a contract with the defendants to provide certain health services to individuals enrolled under the defendants' health benefit plans. St. Elizabeth's alleges the defendants refused to compensate the plaintiff for services provided to their enrollees and wrongfully withheld payments rightfully owed to the plaintiff.
As a result of defendants breaches, plaintiff has been damaged in the amount of not less than $5,106,962.72.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in the amount of at least $5,106,962.72, plus interest and costs. It is represented by Todd A. Rowden, James L. Oakley and Eileen E. Boyle of Thompson Coburn LLP in Chicago.
