BELLEVILLE—A patron claims she fractured her knee after slipping on liquid at the Belleville Circle K.
Michelle Schmittling filed a complaint on Nov. 5 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Mac's Convenience Stores, doing business as Circle K and Circle K Midwest, and Erica Brutto, alleging they failed to maintain a safe premises.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 6, 2016, she was a patron at the Circle K convenience store in Belleville when she slipped and fell on a puddle of liquid, causing her to fracture her knee.
Schmittling claims she has suffered pain, mental anguish, disability, disfigurement, medical expenses and lost wages.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly implement policies and procedures designed to ensure a clean and safe parking lot.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $75,000, plus costs. She is represented by Thomas Q. Keefe III of Keefe, Keefe & Unsell PC in Belleville, IL.
