BENTON — A woman is suing her insurance company for allegedly denying her long-term disability benefits.

Laura Sims filed a complaint on Nov. 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against Life Insurance Company of North America, doing business as Cigna Group Insurance, alleging violations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 5, 2017, she stopped receiving her long-term disability benefits.

The plaintiff holds Cigna Group Insurance responsible because despite providing substantial evidence that she has been continuously disabled from working in any occupation, defendant continues to deny her LTD benefits.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks to recover the benefits due under the employee welfare benefit plan, costs, attorneys’ fees and interest. She is represented by Matthew R. Davis and Candace A. Weatherfield of Gallagher Davis LLP in St. Louis.
