BENTON — The federal government is suing St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital and a woman for allegedly failing to make payments on a Beech Street property.

The U.S. government filed a complaint on Oct. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against Sherry L. Shaw and St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, alleging breach of a mortgage agreement.

Rural Housing Service, an agency of the federal government, alleges that on Nov. 23, 1993, the defendants mortgaged a property located at 1006 Beech St. in Olney for $37,640.

As of Aug. 15, $30,441.19 was due.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to pay the monthly installments of principal, interest, taxes, and/or insurance.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment to foreclosure and sale, attorney’s fees, costs, and expenses, and such other relief as equity may require. The federal government is represented by Adam E. Hanna, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, in Fairview Heights.
