BENTON — An injured boat captain from Creal Springs accuses his employers of violating federal maritime law.

James Sullivan filed a complaint on Oct. 4 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against American Commercial Barge Line LLC, ACBL River Operations LLC, American Commercial Barge Line Company, Commercial Barge Line Company and C/C Transport Inc.

According to the complaint, a driver for C/C Transport crashed while transporting the plaintiff to another boat for work. He claims he sustained serious injuries on his right hip, right shoulder, and neck.

Because of the intense pain and emotional suffering, the plaintiff became addicted to prescription medications and underwent extensive drug rehabilitation treatment and psychological counseling, the complaint states.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to hire a competent driver. He also claims the defendants did not provide appropriate medical care and refused to guarantee payment for him to obtain psychological health care services.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages. He is represented by Frederick B. Goldsmith of Goldsmith & Ogrodowski LLC in Pittsburgh and William L. Broom III of Barrett, Twomey, Broom, Hughes & Hoke LLP in Carbondale.
