BENTON — A Vietnam veteran seeks $20 million in a suit accusing a Veterans Administration doctor of failing to diagnose his kidney cancer.
Kirby Williams and Paula Williams filed a complaint on Oct. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against United States of America, alleging the local Veterans Administration facility failed to provide proper medical treatment.
According to the complaint, Dr. Ronald Weinstein treating Kirby Williams at the VA Medical Center in Marion. As a result of the negligent treatment, he suffered an ongoing kidney injury, irreversible kidney damage and metastatic renal carcinoma.
The plaintiffs allege the medical center employee failed to timely and appropriately treat Kirby Williams' tumor and cancer. They also allege the VA did not pay their medical claims.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek damages of $20 million. They are represented by Gary L. Smith of Loewenstein & Smith in Springfield and Don Cary Collins of Law Office of Don Cary Collins in Belleville.
