EDWARDSVILLE — A Troy-based manufacturer is being sued from a former employee alleging wrongful termination.

Godfrey Hubbard filed a complaint on Nov. 9 in Madison County Circuit Court against Cooper B-Line Inc. alleging the former employer violated the Family and Medical Leave Act.

According to the complaint, the defendant initially allowed Hubbard to take short-term disability leave following a medical condition. But then the defendant began counting the absences toward Hubbard's allowed days off per the Family and Medical Leave Act, the complaint states. The defendant then fired Hubbard, despite 10 years of service with the company.

Hubbard claims he suffered lost wages and fringe benefits, emotional distress, humiliation and loss of career.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of not less than $50,000. He is represented by John M. Leskera of Leskers Law Firm in Collinsville.
