Wood River woman alleges injuries from benzene-containing car polish

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE — A woman is suing a car polish manufacturer for allegedly failing to exercise reasonable care and caution for the safety of those working with and around benzene-containing materials.

Brenda Jenkins filed a complaint on Oct. 26 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Turtle Wax Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 5, 2015, she was diagnosed with myelodysplasia syndrome as a result of being exposed to the defendant's benzene-containing car polish.

She claims she has endured pain and suffering, mental anguish, disability and incurred medical and treatment expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant negligently included benzene in its products when adequate substitutes were available and failed to provide adequate warning that benzene-containing products had toxic, poisonous and highly deleterious effects to a person's health.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages of more than $50,000, plus costs and all other relief the court deems appropriate. She is represented by Christopher W. Dysart of The Dysart Law Firm PC in Chesterfield.
