EDWARDSVILLE — A passenger is suing a driver for allegedly causing a collision on Highway 162.

Regina E. Castillo filed a complaint on Oct. 18 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Melissa R. Gray, alleging she breached her duty to operate her vehicle in a careful and prudent manner.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 22, 2016, she was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Lance Darr. The pair were traveling east on Highway 162 in Pontoon Beach when Gray allegedly caused her vehicle to collide with Darr's vehicle.

Castillo claims she suffered serious and permanent injuries which required extensive medical treatment.

The plaintiff holds Gray responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to slacken speed or stop to avoid the collision.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a judgment in her favor for a sum exceeding $50,000, plus interest, costs and all other relief the court deems fair and just. She is represented by Edward W. Unsell, Fred Patrick Schuman and Joshua R. Evans of The Unsell Law Firm PC in East Alton.
