BELLEVILLE — A white woman who worked at an optometry office accuses her employer of race discrimination.

Kimberly Shively filed a complaint on Sept. 27 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Clarkson Eyecare Inc., alleging her former employer violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff claims she was treated badly at her job because she is white and was eventually fired.

As a result, Shively claims she suffered lost wages, benefits, emotional distress, mental anguish, inconvenience and loss of enjoyment of life.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant in and amount greater than $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by Michael J. Brunton of Brunton Law Offices PC in Collinsville.
